“Drones” Collection, by CE Alum Chris Lewis, Now in Diamond Previews!

Drones TPB cover lo The trade paperback collection of Drones, published by Comics Experience with IDW, will be in stores on November 11, 2015! The book is available to pre-order from comic retailers now.

Written by Comics Experience alum Chris Lewis, with art by Bruno Oliveira, Drones tells the story of two Predator drone operators caught in a series of mishaps and adventures at a terrorism-themed Vegas hotel. The creative team also includes cover artist Ramon Villalobos and colorist Cabral. Series letterer E.T. Dollman is a Comics Experience Creators Workshop member, as is Joe Lalich, whose pinup art appears in the trade.

Drones initially appeared over five issues, released monthly from April through August, 2015. It was the second title to launch through Comics Experience’s publishing partnership with IDW (other titles include Creature Cops: Special Varmint Unit, Tet, and the forthcoming Gutter Magic).

Prior to the series release, Chris workshopped each of the five original Drones scripts on the Comics Experience Creators Workshop. Chris shared his thoughts about the Workshop’s role in developing the project:

“With the Drones TPB coming out in November, I thought I’d take a quick look back at how this whole thing started. In 2010 I signed up for the Introduction to Comic Book Writing course. After 6 weeks of waking up at 3am for class (I live in Germany), I had produced a 5-page short story called Groove, about a disfigured X-Files-type special agent with a prosthetic alien voice box. It was not particularly good. But I dug it. And I kept at it.

“Then came the monthly challenges with Valentines-themed sci-fi robot love and Azkaban jailhouse fan-fic, failed starts to two more miniseries, and finally Drones. Two issues in and I knew it was time to find an artist and produce a book. Which we did. But not after receiving tons of advice from fellow CE members, and one particularly intense pro crit from Jim Zub (Skullkickers).

“The resulting terrorism-themed satire would absolutely not exist without Comics Experience. It is the only educational platform out there that not only helps creators tell the stories they want to tell, but also publish the stories they want to tell. And with the new digital partnership with Comixology, there has never been a better time to sign up.”

Our thanks to Chris, and congratulations to everyone on the Drones creative team! For more about the Creators Workshop, visit the page here.

The Drones collection is available for pre-order from comic retailers using Diamond code SEP150495. Look for it in stores starting November 11, 2015!
