Comics Experience teams with the Hero Initiative to offer all-day “Comic Book Boot Camp” on Thursday, April 17th, 2008!
“We got a call from Jim McLauclin of the Hero Initiative asking if we’d be interested in teaming up before the New York Comicon to help raise some money for the charity. It was an honor to be asked, honestly,” said Andy Schmidt, President of Comics Experience.
“What we’ve done is put together a one-day program with guest speakers on every step of the process from publishing, to pitching, to writing, storytelling, penciling, coloring, and lettering. It’s all there, and it’s all brought to you by the best in the fields.”
The event, called “Comic Book Boot Camp” has several high-profile creators speaking on such topics as: Top Cow Publisher Matt Hawkins on Publishing, Chris Gage (Avengers: The Initiative, StormWatch PHD) on pitching and creating, Denny O’Neil (Batman, Green Lantern / Green Arrow) on writing comics scripts, Chris Claremont (Uncanny X-Men, New Exiles) on storytelling, Sean Chen (Wolverine, Salvation Run) on penciling, with colorists Chris Sotomayor (Supreme Power, Avengers) and Jose Villarubia (Promethia, X-Factor) and letterer Cory Petit on lettering.
It’s a tour de force of comic creativity and it’s all set in an intimate room for free-flowing conversation. “I’m giddy for this myself,” admitted Schmidt. “This is a wonderful opportunity for any fan and any creator alike. And with such a small price tag, who could pass it up?”
“Comic Book Boot Camp” is scheduled for Thursday, April 17th (the day before the New York Convention begins) starting at 9:00 am and going until 6:00 pm. The admission price is $275 a head and you must register/pay online here (www.comicsexperience.com).
Seating is limited, so sign up now!
