Writing and Editing Testimonials

Devon Wong

“Joe is extremely well-versed in law for comic book creators, from its history to the myriad practical aspects that all creators should know if they’re hoping to work in the industry, and even if they already do. There are so many legal dimensions to comic book creation, from contracts with collaborators and publishers to registering copyright and trademark, and creators need to become familiar with all of it. I came out of the course with a number of new tools at my disposal and an awareness of the complexity and scope of the laws and protections pertinent to comic book creation. I’m already applying my new knowledge of contracts in my collaborations. Joe himself is an experienced and well-organized teacher who is able to make incredibly complicated material easy to understand. The contracts provided by Joe are alone well worth the price of admission. I would highly recommend that other creators take this course. It may be daunting, but it will pay off. And I’m incredibly grateful that I won’t have to learn about law for comic book creators the hard way!”

“Before I took the “Introduction to Comics Writing” course through Comics Experience, the only thing I knew how to do was read a comic book.  But after the course, wow!  I can write a script!  I had a great time and the course is a great value!”

Joe Cuddy

“I just wanted to thank you again for our classes, particularly the Intro to Comic Book Writing from last fall. The script I developed there was accepted for publication by FutureQuake Press in the UK. I know you’ve got alumni who’ve written for Marvel and DC, so that might not seem like a big deal, but it is for me. Having the script I wrote for class become my first published work was the best case scenario from the outset, and I’d just like to thank you for your part in it. It literally wouldn’t have happened without you and Comics Experience.”

Nic Shaw

“I’d taken the Intro to Comic Book Writing with Andy previously, but writing for animation was a whole new beast. I thought it best I brush up before getting down to writing. Thankfully Zac is a wonderful lecturer who is well versed in the ins-and-outs of handling an animation script. He walked us through all the facets of creating a script, both short and feature length, as well as helping us learn the unique business of being an animation writer.

Like the rest of Comics Experience, it’s worth the price of admission.”

“I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who wants to write comics someday. Andy offers wisdom and insight not only into the writing process, but into the industry itself. I really feel like I learned a lot, and the practical component of writing and critquing was invaluable.”

Ian Powers

“It was a wonderful experience, you (Andy) really pulled away the veil on comics writing.  I’ve learned more than I would have thought possible from an introductory class.  I’ve read all the books, and taken classes on writing before, but this experience was like having a Kung Fu master on my shoulder the whole way through.  I believe it’s your passion that really made it such a unique adventure.  It’s rare to find someone who walks the walk at the top levels, and can still nurture and guide new talents the way you do. Bravo!”

Brian Baccarella

“Intro to Comics is the best writing class I’ve taken thus far.  Andy has a ton of great insights, and a great comic creating process/structure from beginning to end.  The critiquing aspect is invaluable.  Andy doesn’t hold back on his own critiques which makes them incredibly honest and useful.  Comics Experience’s own scripts and templates are provided during the class as learning tools, as well as a recommended reading list.  This is the first class I’ve been in that has had live video chatting.  This gets you closer to your peers, and allows for more honest and enthusiastic critiques.  This class WILL make you a better writer and story teller.”

Luke Durdin

You have access to a whole community that shares your interest in comics and wants to help your comic-making-dreams become a reality. The resources provided by Comics Experience are just too good to pass up.”

Dan Liebke

“Thank you, Andy. I signed up to the first course as a bit of a treat to myself to learn more about creating in a medium I love. And I had such a fantastic time and learned so much that I hung around for two extra classes.

So thanks again for all your time and knowledge. I’ve had a ball.”
