Cover Design
ANDY SCHMIDT: Andy will talk about the main different kinds of covers as well as how to plan out covers for design purposes across a series. Designing covers is often an afterthought for many comics creators, and yet they are your most important sales tool and they communicate so much about your book. Andy goes deep in constructing the right kind of cover(s) for your projects.

Character Design
ANDY SCHMIDT: Character design in comics is unique to other media. It’s both about who the character is and how he or she looks. In comics, the writers and artists work more closely together and its important to do that with a shared vision. Andy will use examples from his own projects to discuss the creation of characters and their designs.

Keeping Your New Year’s Resolution to Make Comics
ANDY SCHMIDT: We all do it. This is the year that I’m going to make comics–write 12 issues, draw 8 issues, whatever it is. Or it’s lose weight, or stop lying to my dog, or whatever. And we never keep them. Well, this year you will. It’s all about time management, and Andy has developed new techniques to keep his complicated work schedule, running a small business, volunteering with local organizations, working out, family time, and personal writing all moving forward. And he’s going to lay it all out here for the world (well, the workshop) to see.
