For five weeks, you’ll improve your logo creation skills, adding additional techniques to create more unique and more eye-catching logos than ever before, including how to incorporate icons, images and visual effects into your logos. You’ll expand on the uses of both Photoshop and Illustrator as well as creating design pages and covers for your projects interior and exterior pages.
The course will help you create a professional looking comic by teaching you how to set up covers, place logos, and create interior pages, such as interior front covers and title pages, that match the overall tone and style of your book.
This course teaches well beyond how to use the programs involved. It goes deeper, teaching the ideas behind every creative decision you’ll make. How to unite a theme from the book in the design of the book and other complicated questions that will lead you to have projects that will leave readers and critics wowed.

Rich Bloom is a graphic designer and illustrator living in Ohio.
He is currently a freelance graphic designer, working closely with Source Point Press as their in-house designer, developing logos and designs for many of their titles. He also works as a Production Assistant at comic book printer, setting up files and designing page spreads.
Before joining the comics industry, Rich worked as Graphic Designer for a design firm in Findlay, OH, eventually becoming the supervisor for the entire design department. There he gained experience working with multiple clients to develop logos, headwear and apparel for names such as Callaway Golf, Dillards, Daniel Cremieux. He also developed branding and apparel for several LPGA golfers, Surf and Skateboard companies, Minor League Sports Teams, and prominent golf courses worldwide.
He has worked on many comic book series doing logo and book design, such as C.O.W.L from Image Comics, as well as Hadrian’s Wall from Image Comics. He has also developed logos for multiple comic series from Aftershock Comics, Source Point Press, and Caliber Comics.
This course is for those students who have completed Production & Business 102: Introduction to Logo Design & Marketing Materials.
Why does the class focus on book design and not just logo design?
The logo communicates a lot about a project, but it’s not the only design element that speaks to a reader or consumer. If we only focused on logos, we’d be doing you a disservice by ignoring extremely important design elements that would leave you less than equipped to create your own projects and make them sing. For that reason, we’ve decided to incorporate logo and book design in this level 200 course.
Will I receive feedback on my work?
Yes! Deliberate practice is a vital component to creating great logos. Your instructor and peers will provide feedback along the way!
What do I do after the class?
Start making logos and designing books! If you plan on doing the work on your own comics, we’d recommend signing up for Production & Business 101: Lettering and Production so that you can letter your own projects as well.
Do I need to be a computer wiz for the class?
Nope. Not one bit. You need to have a computer, high-speed Internet access, and access to Photoshop and Illustrator from Adobe.
What if I miss a class?
All of our classes are recorded and available to view via streaming link for the duration of the course. And on top of that, you’ll have exclusive access to the Comics Experience forum set up just for the class. You’ll be able to interact with the rest of your class all week long at any time!
If I don’t live in the United States, can I still take the course?
You bet. We’ve had students jump in other Comic Experience classes from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North and South America–so all over the world. Some of these students have not been able to attend live, but they’ve viewed the recordings and interacted with their classmates online!
