Comics Experience Alum Amy Chu’s “Poison Ivy” Miniseries Launches from DC on January 20!

Poison Ivy smJanuary 20, 2016 marks the launch date for DC Comics’ new Poison Ivy: Cycle of Life and Death miniseries, written by Comics Experience alum Amy Chu! She is joined by Clay Mann on art, Seth Mann on inks, and Janice Chiang on letters for a murder mystery starring one of Batman’s most beloved – and most mysterious – villains.

The six-issue story follows Poison Ivy’s civilian alter ego, Dr. Pamela Isley, as she begins a new career at Gotham Botanical Gardens. But when a colleague winds up dead, she has to find the real killer before she takes the fall herself. Fan favorites like Poison Ivy’s on-again, off-again love Harley Quinn will also be stopping in to take part in the action, with plenty more surprises to come!

Amy is an alum of several CE courses as well as a former member of our Creators Workshop. She first began her career at DC as a writer on Sensation Comics: Wonder Woman, and she spoke with Newsarama’s Vaneta Rogers in November about what readers can expect from the expansion of Poison Ivy’s character.

“There’s surprisingly little done with Poison Ivy given how long she’s been around as a character. It’s strange to me. She’s super sexy, super smart — like Lex Luthor smart — and she can pretty much take over Gotham if she wanted. I’m trying to bring the emotional depth and character recognition to her that she deserves. She’s not just some sidekick that kisses guys to death,” she said.

“Ivy’s a very complicated and conflicted character. She’s half plant and half human. She’s caught between two worlds. Her allegiance is to the plant world, but she’s also loyal to her human friends.”

Poison Ivy: Cycle of Life and Death will be available in stores beginning January 20, 2016.

If you’re a Poison Ivy fan, or simply want to show the creators some love, the #PoisonIvyLeague discussion has been ongoing over Twitter. Join up with fellow enthusiasts to talk about your favorite character moments or promote the series!

(And, of course, don’t forget to check out the previews here.)

From everyone at Comics Experience, we congratulate Amy and her team on the thrilling new series!
