CE alum Kenny Porter’s short comic story, “Su-Zan: Queen of the Wild,” has been published on the Heavy Metal website! Written by Kenny with artwork by Jim Towe, “Su-Zan” is a tribute to the science fiction heroes and jungle girl/guy pulp magazines that the author grew up reading.
The story is available for free at the Heavy Metal site here!
Kenny is an alum of CE’s Introduction to Comic Book Writing course, as well as a Creators Workshop member. A past winner of the Top Cow International Talent Hunt competition, Kenny had his story, “The Preacher and the Teacher,” published in Top Cow’s Artifacts #33. He discussed the experience in this CE blog post.
Kenny also talked about writing comics as a featured guest on the CE “Make Comics” podcast, along with fellow Top Cow Talent Hunt winner and CE community member Devon Wong.
“Su-Zan: Queen of the Wild” came to be published online after Kenny wrote an article for the Heavy Metal site. After his article went live, Kenny submitted the “Su-Zan” story for web content, which the editor promptly accepted.
“It started off as just a fun short thing to work on with my buddy Jim Towe, but I’ve written a first issue for a five-issue arc,” Kenny explains. He eventually plans to post the first issue to the Creators Workshop for feedback, and develop a series pitch.
CE congratulates Kenny and Jim, and wishes them all the best in developing the project!
“Su-Zan: Queen of the Wild” is available to read right here!
