CE Community Member Projects: A Crowdfunded Indie, A WWI Anthology Piece, and A Free Online Short!

Comics Experience Community Members are making comics!

In Comics Experience courses and the Creators Workshop, our members don’t just discuss the comics industry – they’re also active participants! Here are just a few of the many projects that our community members are putting out right now.

Illustrated GirlJackson Compton, Illustrated Girl

Creators Workshop member Jackson Compton is the writer of Illustrated Girl, with art by Natasha Alterici. Funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign, this project tells the story of a young girl who finds mysterious glowing images that appear on her skin when she wakes, then fade quickly – and the discoveries she makes when she tries to get to the bottom of their meaning.

Illustrated Girl #1 is available on ComiXology here, with a second issue currently in progress.

To End All WarsLex Wilson in To End All Wars Anthology

Lex Wilson’s 14-page story, “The Angel and the Hound,” is part of the graphic anthology To End All Wars – a tribute to the 100-year anniversary of the UK entering World War I. Lex’s story is illustrated by Robert Brown, and explores two urban legends associated with the Battle of Mons (the first major British engagement in WWI). Proceeds from the anthology’s sales will be donated to Doctors Without Borders.

Lex is an alum of CE’s Intro and Advanced Writing courses, and a member of the Creators Workshop. To End All Wars is available from independent bookstores (find yours here), or through Amazon here.

PrintFrom CE Course Assignment to Online Comic

CE’s Introduction to Comic Book Writing course requires students to complete a 5-page comic book script. Now, alum Devon Wong has turned his former assignment into a fully-illustrated comic, available for free online here.

Primary Vector includes art by Danny Luckert and color by Ivan Plascencia. Devon is an alum of the CE Intro and Advanced Comic Book Writing courses, and we previously profiled his winning entry and publication in the Top Cow Talent Hunt competition, along with a Q&A about the process.

Devon met his Primary Vector collaborators through his experience with the Talent Hunt – which, in turn, he learned about through Comics Experience!

Congratulations to all our community members, and their collaborators, on these projects!
