What better way to spend the holidays than with a few creative friends?
Comics Experience Operations Manager and Creators Workshop member Marta Tanrikulu‘s anthology Santa’s Favorite Tales: Holiday Comics for Grown-Up Kids is now available at DriveThruComics! Pick it up as a PDF, or order a softcover to get signed by your favorite artists and writers. Marta not only served as the editor, she also contributed a story to the festivities!
Designed and produced by fellow Creators Workshop participant E.T. Dollman, and with Joe Badon on the cover, the book features 11 magical tales centered around Christmas lore and traditions. The anthology features a wide range of creators, nine of whom are Comics Experience alums or Creators Workshop members. See below for the full list!
No matter what you prefer to pour into your cup of cheer, you’re bound to find a Christmas comic to enjoy over the holiday season for years to come.
Marta says, “There are two stories inspired by Charles Dickens’ Christmas ghosts, a silent story, and a couple of stories about not-so-nice people. They’re nicely complemented by stories and artwork… that range in genre from horror to magic.” Even Krampus himself can’t resist stopping by!
The Creators Workshop also played a role in helping Santa’s Favorite Tales happen. Marta joined in 2011, having taken the Intro to Writing course the previous year.
“There was a writing challenge in 2011 that generated two of the ideas for stories in the anthology,” she says. “Working with other creators on an anthology after completing the Intro to Writing course was valuable for getting an idea of what was involved in putting one together.”
For readers interested in exploring Marta’s other foray into holiday anthologies, she also co-edited and contributed short stories to Out of the Blue: A Collection of Campfire Tales and Out of the Blue: A Collection of Strange Stories, a series she co-created with Corey Fryia and Marcus Muller through Stache Publishing. Both titles also included multiple CE contributors!
The earlier Collection of Strange Stories featured contributions by Creators Workshop members E.T. Dollman, Glenn Møane, and Ramon Gil.
The more recent Campfire Tales included work from members Federico De Luca, E.T. Dollman, Michael Gordon, Tomas Marijanovic, Matt O’Keefe, and Nic J. Shaw. The story “Thalassophobia,” written by Michael Gordon, with art by Federico De Luca and letters by Tomas Marijanovic, was workshopped on the Creators Workshop forums before appearing in the collection.
We’d like to offer a tip of the red and white stocking cap to Marta, E.T., and the rest of the Santa’s Favorite Tales crew for their hard work and success! Check out the full list of creators below, and don’t forget to pick up a copy for the comics lover in your life… or as a reward for yourself after getting all your shopping done before Christmas. Or both!
