Comics Experience founder Andy Schmidt and our friends and partners at Source Point Press will be attending San Diego Comic-Con next weekend, at booth #2306! Creators Workshop member and Comics Experience alumnus and writer Frank Gogol will be on hand to sign copies of Grief, along with other Source Point creators like Kasey Pierce and Joshua Werner.

Thursday, July 19

  • Art of Collaboration: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love my Collaborators, along with Kyle Higgins, Comics Experience alumnus Amy Chu, our own instructor Phillip Sevy, and Reilly Brown and Fred Van Lente, both of whom you can find around the Creator’s Workshop. Discuss the intricacies—and intimacies of creative collaboration for comic books. It’s a little known fact that most comics that don’t happen breakdown because of problems amongst the collaborators. Learn how to avoid these common pitfalls and build lasting, collaborative relationships! 4-5 p.m., Room 11

  • Comics Experience’s Guide to Writing Comics and Graphic Novels, along with Fred Van Lente. Drill down on the craft of writing comics, breaking it down into actionable steps to get your ideas out of your brain and onto the scripted page! If you’ve ever wanted to write comics, this is your first step! 3-4 p.m., Room 11

Saturday, July 21

  • Writing for Comics: Crafting Perfect Panel Descriptions, along with Phillip Sevy, Reilly Brown, and Mike Costa. This panel will take you through the complicated and artful process of creating powerful panel descriptions that artists will love to draw from and get you what you want—EVERY TIME! No comics writer can be successful with out learning how to properly and dynamically communicate with his or her artist! 2-3 p.m., Room 11
  • Breaking Into Comics – Creating Your Own Career, along with Phillip Sevy and Fred Van Lente. A no-holds-barred look at what it takes to break into comics as a writer or an artist as well as an honest picture of the current comics industry landscape. This is your chance to hear it straight from those in the trenches. Andy and Phillip are ready to help and committed to giving you honest answers and real strategies!
