Do I need to already be a freelancer to take this course?
No, you don’t need any prior experience working on your own. The course is designed to help people understand if freelance work is right for them, and then help them build a business that matches their goals.

Do I have to be an artist to take this course?
No. There are a lot of business and creative jobs in freelance comics, and this course will cover all the different types of work you can do and the different types of clients you can work for.

What do we do in this course?
Each class will be broken down into two sections. First, we will cover a major aspect of freelance work (building a business foundation, finding clients, collecting your fee and finishing the work) as a formal presentation. Then we will have a Q&A discussion where students can ask questions about anything covered in the course.

Do I need to know a whole lot about comics?
No. The course will cover how comics are made, how the industry is structured and how to navigate this world as a professional. Comic readers may appreciate the easter egg examples more, but you don’t need to be an avid collector for this course.

What if I miss a class?
All of our classes are recorded and available to view via streaming link for the duration of the course. And on top of that, you’ll have exclusive access to the Comics Experience forum set up just for the class. You’ll be able to interact with the rest of your class all week long at any time!

If I don’t live in the United States, can I still take the course?
You bet. We’ve had students jump in from Europe, Asia, Australia, and South America and Africa. Not Antarctica yet, but give us time! Some of these students have not been able to attend live, but they’ve viewed the recordings and interacted with their classmates online! Keep in mind that many of the legal concepts will apply mainly to students in the US, but the principles will be universal.

Do we get any practical industry advice?
The entire course is based on practical industry advice. Gamal has twenty-five years of experience working in the comic book industry and he represents clients of every size to this day. All of that insight will be available to students of this course.
